The Walk of the 12 Apostles
Inspired by the poem: "Charge of the Light Brigade"
By Bobby Gawthrop
Commission,
Great Commission,
encompassed by a world hostile,
into crush the god of this age,
walked the 12 Apostles
Onward as innocent doves,
all for the King they love,
into crush the god of this age,
walked the 12 Apostles
Forward the 12 strode on,
was there a faith undone?
only one that their Lord knew,
though weak and jostled
They not to question why,
nor speculation bring,
theirs but to serve and die,
at the pleasure of their King,
into crush the god of this age,
walked the 12 Apostles
Pharisee to right of them,
Saducee to left of them,
Caesar in front of them
Satanic and hostile
Spewed upon by fiendish yell,
anointed, they walked, and well,
pressing neither flesh nor blood,
into and pressing o'er the gates of hell,
walked the 12 Apostles
Unsheathing the Spirit's sword,
in holy armour clad, unseen,
the promise ne'er returning void,
pressing the antithesis
through a spiritual sweating sheen,
while upside downing the world, still hostile
Into the foe they flayed,
inch by inch the Highway paved,
foundation of the Church is laid,
oe'r the enemy's sod,
soldiering onward, they trod,
theirs, a high price to yield,
as they ever battled in that field, hostile
Onward, Great Commission walk,
but not,
not the 12 Apostles
Pharisee to right of them,
Saducee to left of them,
Caesar in front of them
Satanic and hostile
Spewed upon by fiendish rage,
opposition at every stage,
into crush the god of this age,
they that had walked so well,
tradition too their story tell,
how, one by one, they went,
for King and calling spent
All of them, by enemy fell,
their bodies strewn and shelved,
only one left, he now in exile dwells,
he only left of the 12 Apostles
Their work shall never fade,
Oh! What a walk they made,
upside downing the world, hostile
Honor the walk they made,
with Christ, the foundation they laid,
martyred Apostles
